Like chocolate cake and motor oil there e is a place for repetition in learning and there is a place it is just a sticky mess much like cake and motor oil. Two types of repetition are important to know. One is process repetition and the other is simple repetition. Process repetition is the repeating of steps and going back to review previous steps. Simple repetition is done within a step deal with the information one is learning. Bellow is a step chart i have made to show how repetition is a part of the learning process.
Be introduced to information
Memorize new information, rules and concepts - often tedious and boring.
Get to know more about it - Assimilate and organize this information - often hard, but interesting.
Try it out (mentally or in practice) - Use this information to analyze, synthesize and problem-solve - often difficult, but satisfying.
Gain feedback
Reflect (return to step 2) and adjust (return to step three)
Use it – first intentionally applying it till It become part of you – a natural use of the information.
